About the Department

University Police have complete police authority to apprehend and arrest anyone involved in illegal acts on campus. If minor offenses involving University rules and regulations are committed by a student, the campus police may also refer the individual to Student Judicial Affairs. For University Police, normal police operations are conducted within the boundaries of property owned, or otherwise under the control of Our Lady of the Lake University.

University Police Officers must meet specific employment qualifications set forth by the University, the University Police Department, and must also meet certain training requirements in order to be licensed peace officers by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). University Police Officers carry firearms and conduct foot, bicycle and vehicular patrols on all university property including the on campus housing facilities 24 hours a day.

University Police Officers are also responsible for enforcing all Texas State Laws including policies regarding the regulation of underage drinking, use of controlled substances and weapons on university property. In addition, the TCOLE mandates all peace officers take 40 hours of continuing education classes every two years.
