º«¹úAV earns an all-time best 12 NAIA Scholar Teams

A record-setting 12 Our Lady of the Lake University (º«¹úAV) athletic teams have been designated as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Teams for the 2019-2020 academic year.

In the past two seasons, º«¹úAV had eight teams earn this honor.

º«¹úAV's NAIA Scholar Teams are Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field, Cross-Country and Softball; Men's Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Cross-Country and Baseball.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

The Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams earned the highest GPAs last season with a 3.393. Kimber Watson led both teams with a 4.0. This is the teams' second consecutive scholar award.

Women's Soccer marked a 3.409 and was led by Erika Zapata, Jessica Zapata, Sarah Miles, Mikaela Gilbert and Ilaina Brenes-Rodriguez – all of whom had 4.0 GPAs. This is the team's sixth consecutive scholar award.

Women's Cross-Country had a GPA of 3.622 and was led by Kimber Watson with a 4.0 GPA. This is the team's fourth consecutive scholar award.

Men's Golf marked a 3.393 and was led by Joshua Sturt, who had a 4.0. This is the team's fifth scholar award.

Men's Tennis earned a 3.379 and was led by Gabriel Braga, who had a 4.0. This is the team's fourth consecutive scholar award.

Men's Soccer recorded a 3.285 GPA, and the team was led by Patrick Pye, Scott Couper, Gustavo Lemos Borba and Bernard Cutini Alvarenga – all of whom earned 4.0 GPAs. This is the team's third scholar award.

Softball had a 3.216 and was led by Alexis Valdez, who had a 3.90. This is the team's fifth scholar award.

Women's Basketball earned at 3.184 GPA. The team was led by Tiffany Lopez and Angeline Sanchez, both of whom marked a 3.90 GPA. This is the team's first scholar award.

Men's Cross-Country marked a 3.157 GPA and was led by Isaac Martinez, who had a 4.0. This is the team's first scholar award.

Volleyball had a 3.156 GPA and was led by Sadie Ballesteros, who had a 4.0 GPA. This is the team's fifth consecutive scholar award.

Baseball earned a GPA of 3.059, and both Miguel Galindo and Matthew Klar had the highest GPAs at 3.90. This is the team's third consecutive award.

2018-2019 NAIA Scholar Teams were Women's Cross-Country, Soccer, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field and Volleyball; Men's Baseball, Golf and, Tennis. In 2017-2018, the Men's Golf and Tennis teams, and the Women's Soccer, Softball and Volleyball teams earned this honor. In 2016, the scholar teams were Women's Soccer, Softball and Volleyball, and Men's Golf, and in 2015, Women's Soccer, Cross-Country, Softball and Track and Field, and Men's Golf were recipients.
