Teaching Philosophy

The key to teaching, for me, is to focus on the student and to accept that every student is diverse and has unique needs, abilities, and experiences.  It is important to recognize and respect their linguistics, cultural, and learning differences, and to create a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued. By getting to know the students I am able to create culturally relevant learning opportunities that incorporate differentiated strategies that can be used both inside and outside the classroom. In creating a community of learners it is recognized that every student brings a wealth of knowledge into the classroom and that by working together, everyone has the opportunity to learn.

Outside Interests

I enjoy volunteering, mentoring, traveling, the arts, and spending time with my family. I love roller coasters and have done several roller coaster road trips with my family. The longest started in San Antonio and ended in Niagra Fallas and featured five different amusement parks.
