August 11 -14, 2024

Saints Flight School is a four-day summer enrichment program designed for incoming first-year students that provides the opportunity to experience º«¹úAV in a more intimate setting before the first day of classes. We understand how this transitionary period between high school and college is exhilarating, exciting, and concerning all at the same time. Flight School provides students more time to make new friends, settle in and learn the mission and core values of º«¹úAV, and of course, explore the marvelous attractions of the world-renowned city of San Antonio!  

Benefits

As a Flight School Saint, students will be able to: 

  • Connect with other incoming Saints, upper-division peer mentors, and professors to create a sense of community and belonging, and learn the mission and core values of º«¹úAV. 
  • Participate in fun, interactive team and confidence-building sessions led by º«¹úAV peer and faculty mentors that will invite you to explore issues of inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility. 
  • Experience º«¹úAV in a more intimate setting before fall classes begin; gain early access to your residence hall (if living on campus) OR live on campus for a few days to gain the full-immersive college experience at no charge! 
  • Explore the marvelous attractions of this world-renowned city with your new classmates. 

Eligibility 

  • SELECTION: Open to the first 30 incoming first-year students who fill out the application and can commit to all four days. 
  • FEES: The program is free, but you must be an admitted º«¹úAV student and have submitted  to sign up for Flight School. This deposit will be applied to your tuition bill upon completion of the program. Application for deposit waivers are available upon request. 
  • REQUIREMENTS: Prior to attending Flight School, you must have a complete admissions packet including final high school transcript and proof of a meningitis vaccine. 
  • DEADLINE: The deadline to sign up is Monday, July 1, 2024 ,or when all spots are filled. 

Program Details

  • Q&A SESSION: This session is required for all Flight School participants. Virtual Check-In Session is Tuesday, July 23, from Noon-1pm. Residence Life will also be in attendance. Log in information will be sent on Tuesday, July 16; please make sure to check your º«¹úAV email address!   
  • SUNDAY Check-In: Move-in day is Sunday, Aug. 11, from Noon - 5 p.m. Please check-in with a Residence Life staff member (210-749-7571 or 210-749-6925) at the Residence Life Office in the
  • Students residing on campus will move into their fall 2024 dorm assignments.
  • Students commuting will have the option to live on campus Aug. 11-14 at no cost to the student. Students, however, will need to bring appropriate dorm bedding and other hygiene material. Linens can be checked out upon request, free of charge. Communter students may move in Sunday, Aug. 11, between Noon -5 p.m. and a move out Thursday, Aug. 15, between 9 a.m.-Noon. 
  • ORIENTATION: We will have a mandatory Flight School meeting from 8-9 p.m. in the  for all participants. More information will be provided during the Check-In Session on July 23. 

Programming

Sunday, Aug. 11 

  • Noon-5 p.m. – Check-in (Dinner on your own) 
  • 8-9 p.m. - Introductory Meeting (Lake View Amenities Room in Slater Apartments) 

Monday, Aug. 12, and Tuesday, Aug. 13  

  • 9 a.m.–3 p.m. – Breakfast, Lunch, Interactive Sessions, and Cultural Excursions  
  • 5–8 p.m. – Optional Dinner and Social Sessions with º«¹úAV Summer Programs 

Wednesday, Aug. 16 

  • 9 a.m.–3 p.m. – Breakfast, Lunch, Final Reflections with Faculty 
  • 5 p.m.–8 p.m. – Optional Dinner and Social Session with º«¹úAV Summer Programs 

 

Registration

Please submit your registration by July 1, 2024 to guarantee your place at this year’s Flight School.

 

Already Registered? 

  • Move into dorms on Sunday, Aug. 11, from Noon - 5 p.m. Please check-in with a Residence Life staff member (210-749-7571 or 210-749-6925) at the Residence Life Office in the Slater Apartments. We will have a mandatory Flight School meeting from 8-9 p.m. in the   for all participants. More information will be provided during the Check-In Session on July 23. 
  • Visit the Residence Life  Frequently Asked Questions  page for additional information regarding living in residence halls on campus.  
  • Review the  Housing Contract.
  • Review the  Residence Life Handbook.
  • Complete your admissions packet including submitting your final high school transcript and proof of a meningitis vaccine. 
  • Complete your fall registration.  
  • Plan on attending the online Check-In session scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, from  Noon - 1 p.m. Residence Life will also be in attendance. Log in information will be sent on Tuesday, July 16; please make sure to check your º«¹úAV email address!
